About

Liadain Warwick Smith enjoys contrasting the warm and traditional materials of red clay with contemporary forms and clean finishes. As an artist she focus’s on finding a subtle balance between the contrasting elements in her work, the rustic and the refined, the earthy and the elegant, the innocent and the sophisticated, the intuitive and the designed. The slow and contemplative process of handbuilding has always been her preference. Before focusing on ceramics, Liadain studied fine art at Bennington College. After receiving her BA she studied graphic design at the School of Visual Art, which she pursued in early freelance work and in the art department of a publishing house designing book jackets. In the years following her work as a designer, Liadain missed the tactile experience of regularly making art and has since dedicated herself to an expanding ceramic practice. Born and raised in Greenwich Village, New York, Liadain works out of her studio on Long Island.
